The Kickoff to 30 Years of Becoming
The 30th Anniversary celebration begins where so much of the school’s story has always lived: with families showing up for one another.
This year, Gratitude Day carries extra meaning. As the first event of NCS’s 30th Anniversary year, it opens a season of reflection by returning to something simple and familiar: caring for the place that has held generations of students.
What Is Gratitude Day
Gratitude Day is a long-running NCS tradition where families, teachers, students, and staff gather before the first day of school to prepare the campus for the year ahead.
It is part workday, part reunion, and part love letter to the school.
Together, the community will:
- Pull weeds and tend the garden
- Plant flowers
- Clean and organize classrooms
- Make small repairs around campus
- Care for the shared spaces where NCS students learn and grow
No special skills are needed, just a willingness to pitch in alongside your school community.

Why It Matters
Gratitude Day reflects the spirit of Novato Charter School: a school built and sustained by the people who care for it.
It is a living example of what Rooted means at NCS: a community showing up, year after year, to care for something built together.
As NCS marks 30 years, Gratitude Day is a reminder that the school’s story has never been written by one person. It has been written a little at a time by every family who has pulled a weed, planted a flower, cleaned a classroom, or helped prepare the campus before the first bell of a new school year.
