Clay Sculpture Elective - Carla Schaareman
Carla was born and raised in Delft, The Netherlands. She studied sculpture, textile arts, printing, and fine arts at various art academics before receiving her BA in Fine Arts at the Academy of Beeldende Kunst in Rotterdam. She has worked as a graphic designer, coordinated murals, educational material, and games. She has two daughters, Marte and Benet, both enrolled at NCS. Her girls’ experience at the charter school motivated her to become a teacher. She received Waldorf teacher training at the Bay Area Center for Waldorf Teachers in 2006. For the past three years she has worked at the East Bay Waldorf High School teaching drawing, printmaking, oil/veil painting, and clay sculpture. |

Yoga Elective - Jean Johnson
Jean has been a student of experiential education and the human potential movement for over 20 years, attending a multitude of workshops, classes and retreats, where she studied yoga, meditation, interpersonal relationships, and spiritual development. Her teaching style can best be described as “Spiritual Slow Flow”. Jean is certified in Integrative Yoga Therapy and is trained in Yin Yoga. She lives with her husband, two school age daughters, and two big dogs in Novato, California. |

Woodworking Elective - Cory Modersohn
Cory Modersohn comes to us from the Marin Waldorf School where he has been the Woodworking and Clay Sculpting Teacher to grades 4-8. He began his teaching career after leading a volunteer Kindergarten-woodworking program for 5 years. His specialties continue to include design and sculpting for the middle school student. He acquired his skills in his family’s woodshop, which he later cultivated to complement his vast design work. He completed his general studies at Joliet Junior College near his hometown of Romeoville, Illinois, before entering the College of Dupage to study Architectural Design, Commercial Art, and Fine Art. He received his Degree in Commercial Art and Marketing before relocating to California. His pursuits have led him to work as a Mechanical Draftsman, Painter, Commercial and Fine Artist, Investor, and Woodworking Teacher. |

Choir Elective - Martha Wall
Martha Wall, Director and Founder of Marin Children's Chorus, has been teaching and directing music in Marin County since 1980. A native Californian, Ms. Wall received her BA in Music from University of California, Berkeley, where she studied conducting with Michael Senturia. She received her Masters in Music Education from Holy Names College in Oakland, with emphasis on the Kodály approach to children's music education. She holds a California Teaching Credential, and has been teaching elementary general music for over 25 years. Martha has been working with children's choirs for over twenty years, and has been a guest clinician and conductor of honor choirs around the State. |
