California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) articulate what students should know and be able to do in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math for grades kindergarten through Twelfth. Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) delineates the science learning progression for students kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. California has a statewide student assessment system called the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP.) The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) administers, per California law, the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment to all California students in Grades Three through Eight, and Grade Eleven. This is a computer-based test aligned with the CCSS. Additionally, students in Grades Five and Eight will take the California Science Test (CAST) which is aligned with NGSS.
While Novato Charter School is committed to covering all CCSS Kindergarten through Eighth Grade by the end of the 8th Grade, we do so on a different timetable from traditional public schools.
